Tarryn first became interested in economic development and community development while interning at the Small Business Enterprise Centre in St. Catharines, Ontario. As a member of the MDB Insight team, she appreciates being able to contribute to work that helps communities to thrive.
As Communications Manager, Tarryn plans and executes our marketing and communications efforts. She also supports client teams with communications and marketing activities, including social media, website reviews and development, copywriting, communications plans, event planning, and the creation of marketing materials. Her interest in digital communications drives her to find new ways to use these tools for the benefit of MDB’s community and clients. She is fascinated by new technologies and their potential economic and social impacts.
Tarryn has worked on several resources produced by MDB for practitioners, such as “This is Not a Newsletter”, the annual national salary survey and the Employment Development Index. Tarryn also played a significant role in the creation of EconomicDevelopment.org, a global hub for those in economic, workforce development, cultural development, community development and international development. She continues to serve as a Community Facilitator for the site.
Before joining the firm, Tarryn lived in London, United Kingdom, where she worked as an Account Executive for a public relations agency serving the business to business technology industry. Tarryn completed a BA in English Language and Literature a Brock University and an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in Public Relations at Niagara College. She is originally from South Africa, and currently lives in Hamilton, Ontario, with her husband. Outside of her work, Tarryn is always pursing opportunities to learn something new, from web development and digital design to sewing and brewing.
